Founded by George Westinghouse in 1886, Westinghouse Electric Company was headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The Company invented the first alternating current or AC power plant in the U.S. in 1886 and supplied the world's first pressurized water reactor in 1957 in Shippingport, Pa., U.S. Today, approximately one-half of the world’s operating commercial nuclear plants was provided by either Westinghouse or its licensees, giving Westinghouse the world’s largest installed base of operating plants powered by nuclear technology.

As of December 2024, the company employs approximately 11,000 people in 21 countries.

On November 7, 2023, Brookfield Renewables and Cameco completed its acquisition of Westinghouse. This significant milestone enables Westinghouse to embrace its world’s clean and secure energy goals and further support its development and growth.

Over the past 130 years, Westinghouse continues to drive innovation with strong focuses on safety and quality to cover the complete nuclear energy life cycle and lead the development of the global nuclear energy industry.

Westinghouse’s latest innovative nuclear technologies encompass AP1000, AP300, eVinici, as well as other nuclear applications such as Long-Duration Energy Storage, Hydrogen Generation and Process Heat, and Radioisotope Production.
